     Legislative advocacy and knowledge issues have become the latest competency for HR professionals.  Increasingly, more legislation that is been passed has an impact for HR, employees and organizations.  From Healthcare to EFCA we are seeing an explosion of HR related legislation.

    Because of this, we as HR professional must be involved in the shaping of legislation.  We are uniquely qualified to do so.  The presentation today will discuss our role as HR and will contain an update on legislative issues facing HR today. 

    About our Speaker:

    Larry Bourgerie is currently the VP/Director of Human Resources at TruStone Financial in Minneapolis. His strengths are in areas of leadership development, group facilitation, coaching, career management, people management, employee relations, employee engagement, generational issues and legislative issues. He is a Lecturer at the Carlson School of Management in the Center for Human Resources and Labor Relations and adjunct faculty at the University of St Thomas teaching HR Management, of Organizational Behavior and Organizational Development & Change.

     His has also been a independent consultant whose clients include Medica, Park Nicollet Foundation, Children’s Museum of Minnesota, Ecumen, Thrivent Financial, State of Minnesota, City of Minneapolis, and Hennepin County.  He past employers include TFC Bank, HelathPartners and Pillsbury

     He earned his B.A. in Business and his Master of Arts in Industrial Relations from the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management.  He has SPHR certification from the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).  He is a past president of Twin Cities Human Resource Association and is has been the MN SHRM Legislative Director for the past 6 years and speakers to groups about current legislative issues and trends
