    In this presentation, by Douglas C. Schommer and Associates, attendees will learn to identify employees in the workplace who have performance problems that may be caused by alcohol and drug abuse.  Attendees will also learn to handle crisis situations that may occur in the workplace.  Included in this presentation will be do’s and don’ts for managers and supervisors.

    The speakers for this presentation include:

     Doug Schommer  Executive Director

     Doug has over 40 years experience in Marketing and Sales and is currently serving as Owner/ Director for Schommer & Associates  located in Rochester, Minnesota.  Since 1999, Doug has served on the Board of Directors for the Cronin Home, a non-profit facility for chronic chemically dependent adults and currently serves as the Board President.  During this time, as an advocate, Doug has talked to many civic organizations, businesses, and Church groups.  He has also worked with the Dare Program in Winona County. 

     Doug is spearheading the development of a Drug Awareness Program through Douglas C. Schommer and Associates.  His mission is to increase the awareness of substance use, misuse, and abuse and addiction issues within the workplace, schools, clubs, and organizations, and to assist with an effective response to these issues.  The Drug Awareness Program will provide speakers and educators who have experience working in the field of chemical health from the vantage points of counseling, social work, and community substance abuse prevention.

     Joanne Houston, LICSW

     Joanne has a Master’s Degree in Management and Human Relations from Webster University, St. Louis, Missouri (1980).  She received her Master’s Degree in Social Work from Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Michigan (1994).

     Joanne has worked in the fields of employee assistance programming and substance abuse treatment since 1978.  Employee assistance programs include a brewery, a paper mill, hospitals, and automotive organizations.  Her last employee assistance position was for Mayo Clinic from which she retired in May 2010.  During the late 1980’s and throughout the 1990’s, Joanne provided substance abuse services for inpatient and outpatient facilities and detoxification units.  Joanne has maintained a small private practice in Rochester since 2004.

    Joanne is also a Qualified Substance Abuse Professional (SAP).

     

    Sherry Hanson, BA, LADC

     Sherry is a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor.  Her degree is from Metropolitan State University with a dual major in Addiction Studies and Personnel Administration.  She started her career working in a detox unit while at the same time working as a counselor in a program focusing on chronic alcoholics and addicts.  Her experience expanded while working in traditional and long term outpatient treatment for women, diversion and treatment readiness programs, as well as education and prevention.  She has spoken to business and community organizations about various chemical health related topics and is passionate about debunking myths and reducing the stigma related to chemical use, abuse, and addiction issues.

     Michael T. Frisch, AFC, LADC

     Mike is currently Executive Director of a non-profit facility for chronic chemically dependent adults.  Mike is a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor in Minnesota and an Accredited Forensic Counselor.  He has worked in the chemical dependency field since 1988.
