Succession planning is a systematic process of identifying, assessing and developing employees to prepare them for future roles.  It helps you build bench strength and decide where people should belong on the bus.  In small to mid-sized organizations, this may involve setting the stage for respectful transitions of owners or key executives.  Unfortunately, most organizations wait until it’s too late—or a crisis occurs—to recognize the need for a plan.

As anHR professional, it’s your role to engage managers in succession planning.  Today, you’ll learn five best practices for developing and implementing a plan that fits your culture.  These are simple tools backed by extensive research at Harvard Business School.  You’ll come away with a usable framework—and a new opportunity to be a strategic partner in your organization’s success.
